A pioneering showcase where artificial intelligence became not just a tool but a genuine creative collaborator — bringing Ukrainian and international filmmakers together in the Carpathians, even under wartime conditions.
On September 12–13, 2026, Grand Hotel Pylypets in Zakarpattia hosted the NeoCinema AI International Film Festival — a pioneering showcase celebrating the point where artificial intelligence meets cinematic art. The festival brought together a global platform of filmmakers, artists and innovators exploring AI not simply as a tool, but as a genuine creative collaborator and subject in its own right.
Because of the ongoing wartime situation, several sessions were held jointly with our partner festival on the same day, in a certified shelter, to guarantee the safety of everyone present. Directors travelled in from abroad alongside Ukrainian filmmakers, and despite the extraordinary circumstances, the festival went ahead exactly as planned — a small but meaningful reminder that creative life in Ukraine continues, even now.
The official programme championed a new wave of filmmakers pushing the boundaries of what's possible, presenting a revolutionary spectrum of visual storytelling — from the algorithmic rhythms of AI-driven music videos to mind-bending experimental animation and unique narrative hybrids.
Videoclips AI — music videos where AI is the primary engine behind imagery, style and motion, producing genuinely synthesized audio-visual experiences.
Experimental Animation AI — abstract, non-narrative or deeply stylized works exploring innovative textures, fluid motion and conceptual structures that challenge traditional animation.
Microshort Films (under 3 minutes) — concise narratives, mood pieces and conceptual sketches where AI assists in scripting, visual design or editing.
Hybrids (AI and Real Filming) — films that combine live-action footage with substantial AI-generated or manipulated elements, bridging human direction and algorithmic creativity.
The NeoCinema AI Film Festival focuses on elevating each filmmaker's creative profile and providing real tools for the next project. The prize package stayed consistent across all four Grand Jury categories, combining prestige, resources and reach.
Winners in each category received the official NeoCinema AI Statuette — a custom-fabricated trophy symbolizing the fusion of art and algorithm — together with an exclusive, limited-edition Winner's Gear package. Each winner was also given a dedicated Winner Profile and interview, featured on the festival's website and social channels for the entire season.
As a special bonus from festival partner Max Sir International Film Festival, every category winner also received a waiver code to submit their work there as well.
What stayed with everyone, though, was the atmosphere rather than the technology. Between screenings, Ukrainian and international directors compared notes on tools, technique and the strange new grammar of AI-assisted filmmaking, and the mood in the room was warm, curious and genuinely celebratory — proof that even the most experimental corner of cinema can feel like a community.
NeoCinema AI International Film Festival continues to grow as a platform where technology and creativity meet, and Zakarpattia once again proved itself a welcoming home for the people building cinema's next chapter.
