A Ukrainian director trained in Kyiv, now building a space in Liège where Ukrainians and Belgians meet through movement rather than language. Anna Horianska's practice has always been rooted in the body — and after the full-scale invasion forced her to leave Ukraine, that grounding became the foundation for starting again elsewhere.
Anna Horianska is a Ukrainian director, acting teacher and facilitator currently living and working in Belgium. She graduated from the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts and founded DramaSchool, an independent theatre studio in Kyiv, where she developed educational and artistic projects grounded in body practices, improvisation, theatre and creative research.
As a director, she staged Two on a Swing Boat, based on the play by William Gibson, for the Millennium Theatre; The Orchestra (Оркестр) by Jean Anouilh for the Kyiv National Academic Operetta Theatre; and the documentary performance Fragile People at the Les Kurbas Center. She has also organized a series of public readings of contemporary Ukrainian dramaturgy. After the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, she relocated to Belgium, where she continues her artistic practice.
In collaboration with the Centre Antoine Vitez in Liège, she founded the Atelier of Intuitive Movement — an intercultural space where Ukrainians and Belgians meet through movement, physical theatre and body practices.
She is currently working on the staging of L'Euphorbier, by contemporary Ukrainian author Oksana Hrytsenko, premiering in Liège this September.
